David Elroy Goldweber was born in New York City and raised on Long Island. His parents were science fiction fans, and young David loved browsing their piles of 1950s pulps. Science fiction became his first love. As an adolescent and teen he moved to fantasy, then when in college and graduate school he got into horror.
After earning his PhD at NYU in 1998 he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he has taught English – and studied film – ever since.
Goldweber has published literary criticism, humor pieces, op-eds, dozens of film articles for FORCES OF GEEK and SCARY MONSTERS, a history of Star Trek for the St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture, and more.
He wrote CLAWS & SAUCERS over a 12 year period, 2003-2015, and continues to update the entries today. He wrote FANTASY FILMS OF THE 1980s 2015-2016 as the first ‘sequel’ to CLAWS. He continues writing film articles and reviews, many of which are posted or linked at this website.
The CLAWS & SAUCERS encyclopedia-guidebook is your companion, not for a few months or years of film viewing, but for a lifetime.
